6 Strategic Management Through ISO 45001 Certification

Unforeseen events occur almost everywhere and in the most unexpected of circumstances. For example, according to reports, there are 6000 work-related deaths every day. Therefore, it is the management’s responsibility to provide a safe working environment for their employees.

Management demonstrates that they are taking critical steps to prevent occupational death and injuries by obtaining the iso 45001 certification.

    What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 took the place of OHSAS 18001, the world’s previous standard for workplace health and safety, in 2018. Businesses and executives will have three years to comply with the new standard.

Management can use ISO 45001 to improve their health and safety regulations and policies. The goal is to assist businesses in providing a healthy work environment by implementing measures that control factors that lead to injury, damage, and, in the worst-case scenario, death.

What are the advantages of ISO 45001?

ISO 45001 is intended to reduce, if not eliminate, workplace injuries and fatalities. It provides several advantages, including but not limited to the following:

    • Improved and more accurate hazard and risk identification
    • Reduce the cost of workplace incidents.
    • Reduce the cost of insurance
    • Increased awareness of occupational health and safety hazards
    • Enhances the safety of the organisation’s activities
    • Employee productivity has increased.
    • Employee absenteeism and turnover are reduced.
    • Demonstrates management’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy working environment for their employees.
    • It attracts both investors and customers.
    • Improves reputation by adhering to international standards

    Target Group

ISO 45001 applies to all types of businesses and industries, regardless of size, profit, or market. Because this is the primary workplace standard, any organisation that uses it will benefit from the system.

How to be ISO 45001 certified?

The ISO does not provide direct certification. As a result, you will require the assistance of an accredited third party to obtain certification. The steps are as follows:

    • Create a management system following ISO 45001 standards.
    • Collaborate with a third-party certification for assessment and documentation.
    • The auditor will determine whether you comply with the legal processes.
    • Any compliance issues must be resolved.
    • Once you have met all of the requirements, you will be awarded the certification.

How long will it take to achieve the certification?

The time it takes to achieve an iso 45001 certification will vary depending on several factors, including the size, complexity, and resources of a business. However, on average, the process will take 45 days to complete.

    ISO 45001’s Major Enhancements

The primary characteristics and foundation of ISO 45001 are patterned after OHSAS 18001. However, the transition has resulted in some improvements.

    ● Senior management participation

Top management must participate and engage with the Occupational Health and Safety Management System by considering OHS in the management planning.

The management should also direct, support, communicate, and encourage employee consultation.

    ● Inclusion of subcontractors

The advantages of ISO 45001 are not limited to management’s direct employees and those who are not permanent employees, such as subcontractors and individuals whose services have been outsourced by the management.

It is the responsibility of management to ensure the health and safety of the workplace. Therefore, policies were created to reduce, if not eliminate, irreversible harm and injuries at work. ISO 45001 certification is one method of demonstrating management’s commitment to promoting the well-being of its employees. This will ensure the safety of employees while increasing productivity and morale.
